NDIS stands for National Disability Insurance Scheme.
The NDIA is an independent Commonwealth government agency responsible for overseeing the implementation of the NDIS. The NDIA stands for National Disability Insurance Scheme.

To be eligible for the NDIS you must:

  • Have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities or a developmental delay
  • be under the age of 65 years
  • be an Australian citizen, hold a permanent visa or a Protected Special Category visa.

Or to meet the early intervention requirements for children:

  • your child is aged under 6 and has a developmental delay, and
  • you or your child have a disability that is likely to be permanent or early supports would reduce how much help you or your child need to do things in the future.

To further assess your eligibility the NDIS will ask you:

  • Do you usually need support from a person because of a permanent and significant disability?
  • Do you use special equipment because of a permanent and significant disability?
  • Do you need some supports now to reduce your future needs?

If you currently receive Federal or State and Territory government supports, you will be contacted by the NDIA when the Scheme is available in your area.

If you do not currently receive supports you may still be eligible for the NDIS. You must contact the NDIS directly on 1800 800 110 to complete an Access Request Form or you can contact your Local Area Coordinator (LAC).  You do not need a referral to complete an access request.

LAC stands for Local Area Coordinator. If you are aged seven or above, one of NDIS partners may deliver Local Area Coordination (LAC services). This includes linking you to the NDIS and to local mainstream and community supports.


Contact your NDIS Local Area Co-ordinator for a list of service providers in your area. Alternatively, you can find a List of Registered Providers in Queensland on the NDIS website

A service agreement is a legal agreement between you and your service provider/s which outlines the support that will be provided for you under the NDIS. It describes how and when the support will be provided, as well as the costs and the fees you need to pay.
